Naengmyun/Naengmyeon @ Cho Sun Ok |
Our family loves a good bowl of soup. But during summer,
Hubby and DD#1 especially love a bowl of naengmyun, a Korean cold soup.
The best naengmyun we have tried so far is in Cho Sun Ok in
Thornhill. Hubby and the girls ordered cold noodles with slush broth combo with
the side of fried dumplings. Thin, chewy arrowroot noodles are topped with
their homemade red pepper sauce, sesame seed oil, pickled daikon, cucumber, and
a hard-boiled egg in a beef based slushy broth. The broth is delightful and
truly hits the spot on a hot and humid day. The dumplings were also good and
not oily.

I got their bibimbap and I was so stuffed! The thin slices of carrots, zucchini, daikon, spinach, shitake mushrooms, cucumbers, soybean sprouts and bulgogi beef were nicely season on top of white rice served in a hot stone bowl. The bibimbap was topped with an egg yolk, sesame seeds and dried seaweed flakes. Delicious!

Grandma got chicken katsu. It was a big serving of two pieces of deep fried breaded chicken breast slices topped with katsu sauce. It was good, but katsu is not their specialty.

They also have pork bone soup if you still feel like the traditional hot soup. Their Gamja Tang was also a big serving of large cuts of pork neck bones on a lovely broth with perilla leaves and seeds and other garnishing.

Overall, excellent service and great food. Expect a bit of a line up, but it is highly recommended.
