Sharing a pre-pandemic memory--
The girls
wanted to get some inspiration for their jack-o-lanterns so we went to visit
the Pumpkinferno event at the Discovery Harbour. We were able to get parking in
the site but they also offered shuttle buses to the venue. I would say that the
event was well-organized with folks directing traffic and parking as well as
having many signages for lines and washrooms. It was also a great way to
integrate food bank donations and they had collection bins at the entrance.
We ogled
the wonderful outdoor exhibits of hand-carved albeit artificial pumpkins. They
had various themes from the different sponsors such as car sponsors and even local ministries.

DD#2, and
even grandma, went with us to the Terror Zone where we went through mazes,
several haunted shacks and graveyard sites for various spooky encounters. They
had actors as well as elaborate set ups to really creep you out. The zone
elicited a few screams from our group, but I think I can safely say that
because we were a group (and sometimes combined with other folks), there were
fewer jump scares vs if there were only a few folks passing through a certain
area.

They also
had a Kids’ zone, café, gift shop, an axe-throwing area, and a restaurant. Admission
also allowed guided access to the supposed haunted Officers’ quarters and to an
exhibit of curiosities.

It was a
fun experience for the family with plenty of things to do and went well beyond
our expectations. Of course, open only in the evening and only in October.
Definitely worth the trip!
