Had brunch
with a very good friend at Café Landwer one Saturday morning. She recommended
this place and I am so glad she did! There were so many dishes we wanted to order--from
classic pancakes to schnitzel, but we ended up getting Shakshuka. As we don’t often
find this on the menu on other brunch places, or even regular places, we decided
this was what we should try. Shakshuka is a North African dish of eggs poached
in a sauce of tomatoes, olive oil, peppers, onion and garlic, commonly spiced
with cumin, paprika and cayenne pepper.
The shakshuka
was beautifully served on a cast-iron pan on top of a wooden tray. It came with
a side salad and we both chose Landwer's Moroccan pita (batbout), which our
server said was baked in store. There were several options for shakshuka but
being meat-lovers that we are, we got the one with beef sausage, Merguez
Shakshuka. There were also sides of labneh and tahini which were perfect with
the pita.

It was truly delicious! Each hearty bite exploded with fragrant herbs and tomatoes. The egg was perfectly poached and the yolk cascaded as I dug into it with my fork. So satisfying! The Moroccan pita was soft and chewy and it went well dipped into the shakshuka. It was so yummy! I would order this again in a heartbeat, which means, I don’t know when I will ever get to try anything else in their menu!
They had
their heated patio open and there were many take out orders. Come prepared for line
ups, but it will be worth the wait.
